Tech Valley - Albany Capital District

New York’s Tech Valley – a region that stretches from the Canadian border near Montreal to just north of New York City – is brimming with opportunity and excitement. In the Greater Albany Capital District, the Luther Forest Technology Campus is a 1,414-acre (573 hectares) site specifically designed for semiconductor and nanotechnology manufacturing and other innovative technologies. The site is environmentally friend and pre-approved ywith convenient  dedicated  Interstate highway access only 1.5 miles away. This site offers abundant water, reliable electrical and gas systems, is pre-approved environmentally and has a user-friendly site-plan review process in place. The Luther Forest Technology Campus will also be home to GLOBALFOUNDRIES (a joint venture between AMD Inc. and ATIC of Abu Dhabi). Construction of their state-of-the-art 300 mm fabrication facility (dubbed Fab 2) will begin in Summer 2009 with production anticipated for summer of 2012

1. What is Tech Valley?
Tech Valley is an 19-county section of eastern New York state that stretches from the Canadian border near Montreal, extends through Albany and the Hudson River Valley and ends in Orange County, just north of New York City.
 
Tech Valley is home to more than 1,000 technology companies, with a combined 50,000 employees and $2 billion annual payroll, that have a $5 billion annual economic impact. But more than that, Tech Valley is a fantastic place to live and raise a family, work or start a business or simply spend a vacation.
 

2. What are your major airports for travel?
Albany International Airport is located in the heart of Tech Valley and Stewart International Airport is ideally situated in lower Hudson Valley. Both offer extensive air travel choices at affordable rates.

International airports in Montreal and Burlington, Vermont also provide convenience and affordability for travel to and from Tech Valley.

Regular commuter service may be found throughout Tech Valley in towns and citites such as Plattsburgh, Poughkeepsie and Saranac Lake.

3. I’m relocating to Tech Valley. Where can I turn for help in finding a house and settling my family?
Contacting your local Chamber of Commerce would be a good first step. The Chamber will put you in touch with real estate brokers and offer programs to help you and your family get to know your community.

4. How are the winters in Tech Valley?
Expect temperatures to dip to about 26 F (-3.3 C) and snowfall to total 40–60 inches. Tech Valley residents enjoy the winter months by taking to our world-class ski resorts, trying snowshoeing, ice skating on our frozen ponds and lakes or enjoying sleigh rides over open fields.
